Season’s Greetings from the staff at Maple!

We hope all of you are enjoying the holiday season!

For any of you that may be cat owners, I’m sure you’re aware that shiny objects like tinsel, ribbon, lights and the like are irresistible to them. Many of you know our head technician, Vicki and her cat, Fletch. Fletch is a fan of stealing ribbons off presents and keeping them for himself. Or Maggie’s cat, Hank, will steal ornaments right off the tree and hide them under furniture or boxes. While our stealthy little friends are certainly entertaining, we should do our best to keep them from anything that they could ingest and be harmful to them.

Another friendly reminder; be kind to their tummies throughout the holidays! Yes, pork tenderloin and buttery mashed potatoes are tasty, but is worth the chance that they’ll wake you up with unrecognizable guttural sounds? Probably not.  There is no such thing as a "Silent Night" if your pet has eaten half of a rib roast.

During this time of year many of us have trees, lights, tinsel and presents around the house. It’s a house cats dream. Trees appear to be jungle gyms or chew toys and mistletoe is just an appetizer to the large red leaves of the poinsettia. Keep in mind that some of these festive plants can be toxic to your pets! Poinsettias, lilies, holly and mistletoe can all be dangerous if ingested by your pet. If they do happen to consume any of those plants and start to experience vomiting, diarrhea, etc. be sure to call us right away!

We wish you all a safe and happy holiday!

Dr.Mike
